Central United States

Aga Khan Education Board (AKEB) for Central United States provides resources, guidance, and opportunities to aid in intellectual development, academic success, and career advancement for all ages from birth to high school to college and beyond. We offer various programs throughout the year to help empower students, parents, and professionals to utilize educational and networking opportunities within the community.

Goals:
Connect students and parents to community resources related to development, education and academia.
Provide specific guidance related to school selection and academic success to make informed decisions during elementary, middle and high school.
Assist with the college application process and enhance understanding of college and career prospects.
Create opportunities for knowledge exchange and development of a growth mindset.

Early Childhood


The Early Childhood Portfolio focuses on the development of a young child between the ages of birth to six years old. The brain is the only organ in the body that is not fully developed at birth so the first few years are critical in the child's intellectual development.
  • Parent(s) must attend the session with their child
  • Sessions are held on a monthly basis
  • Sessions last a minimum of 90 minutes
  • Parent and child engage in age-appropriate activities
  • Periodic screenings are conducted: 6, 12, 18, 24 & 36 month intervals

We are implementing a new Birth to Three curriculum starting Fall 2017. The curriculum will encompass faith and ethics and will be known as the Integrated Curriculum.

Primary


The Primary Portfolio focuses on engaging children between the ages of 7 and 12 and their parents. The purpose is to encourage participation in developmental activities, such as summer workshops and reading for pleasure, that promote a growth mindset. Programs aim to foster confidence, social and communication skills, as well as awareness to aid in future success.
  • Parent(s) must attend the session with their child
  • Sessions are held on a monthly basis
  • Sessions last a minimum of 90 minutes
  • Parent and child engage in age-appropriate activities
  • Periodic screenings are conducted: 6, 12, 18, 24 & 36 month intervals

Secondary


The Secondary Portfolio focuses on children between ages 13 to 18 to provide guidance for high school, college, and beyond. Ensuring success during high school and preparing for college is often a time a uncertainity for students and parents. Programming focuses on providing resources for academic support throughout high school in order to best prepare for college as well as help with the college application process to ensure students reach their academic and career goals.
  • Parent(s) must attend the session with their child
  • Sessions are held on a monthly basis
  • Sessions last a minimum of 90 minutes
  • Parent and child engage in age-appropriate activities
  • Periodic screenings are conducted: 6, 12, 18, 24 & 36 month intervals

College & Beyond


The College & Beyond Portfolio provides opportunities for current college students, young professionals, and Ismaili Professionals in Education & Academia. The purpose is to offer guidance to prepare for a professional career as well as avenues for networking and career development.
  • Parent(s) must attend the session with their child
  • Sessions are held on a monthly basis
  • Sessions last a minimum of 90 minutes
  • Parent and child engage in age-appropriate activities
  • Periodic screenings are conducted: 6, 12, 18, 24 & 36 month intervals
